Check on almost any surface not covered by insulation and there should be a layer of dust with animal tracks. Many have unique architectural features. Bats enjoy making their roost in places higher up such as attics. Or you can check for muddy footprints.

The roof rat is more common in warm areas and more likely to enter the attic. One of the most common critters to find in your home throughout the winter months are bats. Rats mice and squirrels all suffer from constantly growing teeth. Raccoons are capable of ripping shingles off and chewing holes in buildings.

Birds and bats require very specific and unique removal tactics. The scariest part of having animals in your attic or walls is that the electrical wiring heating and cooling and plumbing systems typically run through these areas as well. Raccoons can enter your attic through loose shingles and or openings the roof and eaves. By turning on bright lights and a radio you can make your attic an unpleasant environment to encourage raccoons to leave on their own.

The most common critter to enter attics in many areas including where i work in florida is the rat. Fluttering noises in the attic. Because of this they have to gnaw on whatever they can find to file their teeth down. As the temperature continues to drop these animals tend to make their way into our homes or businesses for warmth and shelter.

If you have raccoons you must be wary of the fact that there is a 90 chance of a litter of baby raccoons in the attic. You can also look at the animal tracks left in the dust in the attic.
